It took the liberal New Republic to really open my eyes into the abject injustice of the federal government's case against Maria Butina. They essentially kept her in solitary confinement for 3 months, with only 45 minutes of sunshine outside in that time. The goal? Find a scapegoat for the Russian investigation. They wore her down until they obtained a single guilty plea of conspiracy to fail to register as a foreign agent.
